Kindness Blessings – Reflection #6

“Meaning is the language of the soul.”

This week’s exercise, placing an object to encounter each morning, is intended to prompt reflection on where we find meaning in life. Everything we encounter can offer purpose and significance if we are attentive and open. Slowing down and practicing awareness reveals hidden resources, but it requires patience and trust.

A Kind Living student shared a story about her “Balance” rock, connecting her surgery to being out of balance. This observation illustrates how our physical well-being can affect our inner equilibrium. The choice of words, like “shift,” is telling.

Another student found meaning in music, describing how it touches her soul and influences her mood. She acknowledges her love for music by supporting a classical music station and inviting others to the opera. This generous gesture shows how she circulates the positive energy she gains from music.

A different student connected a black pot she bought 20 years ago to her desire to embrace her feminine side. She not only shared the circumstances of acquiring the pot but also recognized the artists behind it, which deepens her connection to the object and its roots. It reflects her aspiration to become kinder, more generous, and happier.

A teacher once told me the story of two people walking at dawn one morning, the rising sun at their backs. One paused and turned to look at the beautiful sunrise, awed by its beauty. Wanting to share it, he then tapped the shoulder of the other, who turned to look and was equally awed. The lesson of this story is that we are all being tapped on the shoulder all the time.

The question is, are we turning to look?
