The Third Way
“As we create a safe space for each other’s soul, we discover what it means to live nonviolently, and we develop a vision of how we might live that way in daily life.”
Reading: Read Chapter Ten. Consider reading the chapter through in its entirety without taking notes. Then come back to it and read it again slowly, giving it the attention you’d give a good friend you are seeing for the first time after a long time apart.
Kind Action: Consider the “gap” Palmer refers to in this chapter. Take time to think of anyone you know on a personal level, including yourself, who has stood in this gap. If it’s genuine and feels appropriate, complete a kind action in response to this, doing something that honors that “still, small voice” inside of you, your soul.
Wholeness Journal: Use your journal to answer at least one of the personal storytelling questions (or another like them) found on page 171:
- What was the best vacation you ever took?
- How did you earn your first dollar outside the home?
- When you are not at work, what is your idea of a good day?
