Inspiration #3 – The Animal Odd Couple

“Life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made by the friends we choose.” –Tennessee Williams

I’ve suggested you choose a good friend and spend a few minutes yesterday, today, and tomorrow just thinking about her or him. My hope is that an idea for a kindness act you could perform for this friend will emerge from your reflection. To inspire you to take the next step, completing your kind action, I’m offering this video for inspiration:

I bet you’re glad you took the time to see it. And to quote the reporter, “They harbor no fears, no secrets, no prejudices.” Pretty spectacular, isn’t it? If it helps with your kind act, refer to the bond between these two animals.

  1. Because my best friend of nearly 40 years, Beth, was visiting me over the last ten days I have not yet posted a about the success on our second assignment, to do a kind act for someone you love. I chose Beth and told you I was going to do whatever I could to “make her day” everyday she was with me!

Because we are so close, I found it was not easy to do, but when she went to visit her sister-in-law for three days, I really missed her. I might not have normally told her, but because it was a profound deep sadness created by her absence and came from my inner being, I decided I should share it with her. When she returned, I told her and she was very moved. We have always been very open and honest with each other, but sometimes it feels like those deepest feelings might embarrass the other person.

Neither of us are “beautiful people” but we both consider ourselves “attractive.” This morning she was wearing a light purple top, had just showered so her hair was soft and fluffy, she had a shine of lip gloss on and her blue eyes were sparkling in her face as she was talking to me. As she finished, I just told her, “Beth, you are really beautiful!” We went on to talk about the inner beauty that shines out of people at times like this. I wish I could send a picture of us two attractive old ladies of 68 and 72 looking so beautiful when my husband took our picture just before she left!!!
