The idea this week is to take some time to slow yourself down, especially if you find yourself worked up about something – like our collective situation with the pandemic.
That unto itself, the slowing down, is an act of kindness to yourself.
As you’re walking, think about someone you’d like to try being if you weren’t you. Imagine being this person for a day or longer. It’s okay to choose a real person, living or dead, or a fictional one, like a character from a book, TV show, or movie.
Try answering the following questions:
- What are the qualities or circumstances that draw you to this person?
- What is the first thing you’d do as this person?
- Does anything surprise you about the experience?
- How do you feel?
Part of the purpose of this exercise is to get us outside of our own heads, to recognize we are part of something bigger than ourselves, and that others experience things differently than we do.
