Butterfly Awareness

As we progress through the global pandemic, I’m working to complete small acts of kindness and encouraging others to do the same. When I make my rare trips to the grocery store, I engage with the checker and the bagger. At home, I make extra effort to keep the house clean.

It’s about keeping things simple and thoughtful.

For inspiration, consider the “Butterfly Effect,” the concept that something as seemingly insignificant as a butterfly flapping its wings in one part of the world can impact the weather in another part. The flapping wings cause an atmospheric change that then sets off a series of events that ultimately leads to something significant happening.

Like the butterfly effect, one small, kind act sets off a series of positive events.

With this in mind, complete very, very small kind actions that do not require a lot of you. Think of these actions as being minor tune-ups on the engine of the universe. In their “small-ness” they may almost seem insignificant. But as a “tune-up” they are part of an ongoing maintenance effort that prevents a major problem from happening down the line.

What might the effect be of completing a daily small act of mindful kindness the rest of the year?
